Surajkund International Fair – A Cultural Potpourri

India, my motherland, is magical and when I get a chance to see its culture and diversity I never say no to that. Surajkund International Mela (Fair) happens every year in Faridabad city of Haryana. It is a great way to celebrate the unique art and craft of our long ancient culture. The mela host artisans from every state of the country. The specialty of every corner of the country gets reflected here. One can also find numerous food stalls showcasing famous cuisines from different parts of the country.

One Indian state gets to the theme state of the year and the entire mela is decorated based on the theme state. Other nations participate too in order to showcase their art and culture. Now let me tell you what the mela has to offer to you.

  • Shopping

You can shop for things such as home decor, jewelry, textiles, homegrown spices, and even furniture. Now, you will have to do a lot of bargaining to get things at a fair price.

Even if you do not want to buy anything, you can still get good exposure to what every state has to offer.

  • Live Cultural Performances

There are performances going on every time during the day. We got to see the performances by teams coming from Nagaland, Madagascar, South Sudan, and Haryana.

To be able to get the taste of culture from every part of the country is something one should not miss.

  • Food

You can find many options to eat. Famous eateries of several states can be found here. Go here with an empty stomach and you will not be disappointed. We had chole bhature, dabeli and tornado potato.

I have great regard for people who are carrying forward our culture generation after generation. I believe that we are fortunate to be living in such a diverse country and surrounded by such an enriched culture. We need to realize its importance and contribute our bit in any way possible to conserve it.

And if you are someone like me who does not really want to buy anything but has a love of different art and culture, you will be able to get some beautiful photos and will end up spending a great day at Surajkund.
